Sachi and Yuka Volume 3 Review: Comedy, Candid Moments, and Questions That Matter

Girls Love

Japanese version: Read in Japanese

Introduction

Hello, I’m Linhua 🌸

Today I want to share my thoughts on Volume 3 of 『Sachi and Yuka』, a manga about an adult couple navigating their daily lives together. The series is officially described as a “working adult yuri rom-com,” but after reading this volume… let me tell you, it’s so much more energetic and laugh-out-loud funny than I expected.

The story follows two women with completely opposite personalities—free-spirited Yuka and the somewhat self-conscious Sachi—who treasure each other above all else. Their dynamic is absolutely delightful.

A Comedy That Doesn’t Hold Back

High-Energy Humor From Start to Finish

This third volume maintains an incredibly high energy level throughout. While it’s officially categorized as a “yuri rom-com,” my impression leans more toward gag comedy. And it’s quite frank about the physical aspect of their relationship—this is definitely lesbian representation rather than the gentler “yuri” we often see in the genre.

The manga has this refreshingly candid approach to adult topics that somehow manages to be hilarious rather than gratuitous. There’s plenty of risqué humor, but it’s presented in such a straightforward way that you can’t help but laugh. I think that’s what makes this series unique.

Breaking Out of Routine

In this volume, Sachi decides to spice things up by purchasing a double-ended toy, which leads to both characters exploring new experiences together. The manga doesn’t shy away from depicting these moments—it’s remarkably bold in that regard.

What strikes me is how rare it is to find a work that portrays these kinds of real conversations between adult couples so openly. Reading it, I found myself nodding along thinking, “Yeah, couples actually do talk about these things.” There’s something refreshingly honest about it.

Supporting Characters Add to the Chaos

Yuka’s junior colleague, Tanaka-kun, moves into the same apartment building where Sachi and Yuka live. This apartment complex is filled with such eccentric residents that it feels like a collection of wonderfully bizarre individuals.

There’s also an intriguing dynamic developing between Sachi’s friend Tomo-chan and her coworker Kusakabe-san. Their relationship has some rather specific… interests, shall we say. But somehow it fits perfectly with the overall energy of the series.

Serious Questions Emerge

Identity and Self-Understanding

Amid all the lively comedy, there’s a significant moment in the middle of the volume where Sachi grapples with a profound question: Is she truly a lesbian, or does she want to be a man?

This section is handled with such care and thoughtfulness. Even though the manga has a comedic tone overall, I really appreciated how it takes the time to genuinely engage with questions of identity. It’s beautiful to see a work address these concerns so sincerely.

This internal struggle temporarily creates tension between Sachi and Yuka. However, through conversations with her childhood friend Osamu-kun back in her hometown, Sachi reconnects with what truly matters to her. These scenes really touched my heart.

A Mysterious Encounter

Toward the end of the volume, Sachi meets a kind woman at the library who reads stories to children. Plot twist: this woman turns out to be Yuka’s mother.

Sachi doesn’t realize this yet, but I wonder when—or if—she’ll discover the truth. The thought of what might happen when she does has me eagerly anticipating the next volume 🌸

Final Thoughts

『Sachi and Yuka Volume 3』 is packed with laughter, candid adult moments, and meaningful reflections on identity. It’s a rich, multifaceted reading experience.

If you enjoy high-energy comedy and appreciate stories that portray adult relationships with honesty and depth, I highly recommend this series. However, please note that it contains very direct depictions of intimacy, so if that’s not your preference, you might want to approach with caution.

For those of you who enjoy lively, adult-oriented Girls’ Love manga, what do you think of stories like this one?

Note: This manga contains mature content and explicit scenes.
